Selection Process

The Selection Process is completely transparent and is scientifically designed to determine the suitability of the candidate for the job of an Airline Pilot.

Online Registration: To begin the process of applying for the SpiceJet Cadet Pilot Programme, interested individuals must first register online at "https://apply.spicestaracademy.edu.in/pta". It is important to ensure that all eligibility criteria are met before submitting the application. A non-refundable application fee of ₹10,000 (Rupees Ten Thousand) is required at the time of online registration.
Application Screening: Once the application has been submitted, it will undergo an internal screening process. If the applicant is selected for further assessment, the Academy team will contact them with details about the selection process via email and/or SMS.
Selection Process Fee: Upon receiving confirmation from the Academy for the screening process, applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable assessment fee of ₹25,000 (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand) through online payment at "https://pilot.spicestaracademy.edu.in/screening-payment.php". This fee must be paid in order to continue with the selection process.

Selection Process Phases

Phase 1:

The COMPASS test is a comprehensive evaluation designed to assess the aptitude and potential of individuals seeking to become pilots.

Phase 4: Personal Interview

Personal Interview: A face-to-face meeting between the candidate and the interviewer(s) to assess their suitability for the job of an airline pilot.
Skills Tested:
- Verbal communication skills: The candidate's ability to express themselves clearly and effectively, both in person and over the radio.
- Personality: The candidate's demeanor, attitude, and overall approach to the job, including their ability to handle stress, work well in a team, and make quick decisions.
Duration: The interview typically lasts for around 10 minutes.

During the personal interview, the interviewer(s) will ask the candidate a range of questions related to their qualifications, experience, and training. The candidate will also be asked about their motivation for becoming a pilot and their understanding of the responsibilities and requirements of the job. The interviewer(s) will assess the candidate's verbal communication skills by observing how they respond to the questions and by listening to their tone of voice, vocabulary, and grammar. They will also be looking for indications of the candidate's personality and how well they might fit in with the team.Also, it's important to prepare well for the interview, doing some research on the company, familiarizing yourself with the role and responsibilities of a pilot, and practicing your responses to common interview questions. Try to be honest and confident throughout the interview, and be prepared to answer questions about any challenges or setbacks you've faced in your career.

Note: The applicant must be aware that they can only move ahead to the next phase after successfully completing the current phase.

Phases:

Completion of Phases: Phases 1, 2, 3 and 4 are usually completed on the same day, unless postponed. The applicant will be informed in advance.

Final Results: The results of the test will be announced on the same day after Phase 4, unless postponed.
Test materials:
- No cell phones or calculators allowed during the test.
- Phase 1, 2 and 3 are computer-based tests.

The Pilot Programme: A training program specifically designed for Academy students, also known as "Cadet Pilots," to prepare them for a career as airline pilots.
Phases of training:
- Ground School: Prepares the Cadet Pilot for the DGCA CPL Papers, which covers the necessary knowledge and regulations for a Commercial Pilot License.
- Flying Training for CPL: The Cadet Pilot will receive hands-on flying training to prepare for the CPL exam and to develop their flying skills

Fee Structure

1st Instalment:
- Non-refundable admission fee of INR 10 Lac + applicable taxes.
- This fee must be deposited within 10 days from the date of the letter of admission.
2nd Instalment:
- INR 30 Lac + applicable taxes
- This fee must be deposited within 14 days from the date of the commencement of the assigned batch under the Pilot Programme.
3rd Instalment:
- INR 25 Lac + applicable taxes
- This fee must be deposited on the commencement of the IR phase of Flying Training or 7 months from the date of commencement of the assigned batch under the Pilot Programme (whichever comes first).
4th Instalment:
- INR 24.50 Lac + applicable taxes
- This fee must be deposited within 14 days from the date of completion of the CPL or 12 months from the commencement of the assigned batch under the Pilot Programme (whichever comes first).
It's important for the candidate to be aware of the fees and payment schedule for the program. All fees mentioned above are inclusive of taxes, and all the payments have to be done within the given time frame, late fees might apply otherwise. The fee structure is designed to be flexible and affordable for the students, and payments can be made through various modes such as cash, cheque, or online transfer. Also, it is important to read and understand the refund policy before making any payments.

Notes

Extension of Training Cost: The cost for extending training at the flying academy will be borne by the Cadet Pilot and will be charged at ₹14,500 per hour plus taxes.
Additional Housing Cost: The cost for any additional housing after eight months of training at the flying academy will be borne by the Cadet Pilot and will be charged at ₹28,000 (plus taxes) per month.
Refund Policy: In exceptional circumstances, where the Cadet Pilot is unable to complete the respective phases of the Pilot Programme, the Academy may in its discretion consider a refund of the unaccrued fee as per the extant policy of the Academy.
Tax and GST: The amounts mentioned above are exclusive of all applicable taxes and GST, which shall be charged and payable additionally.
Fee for Cadet Pilot Program + BBA/MBA: The first instalment fee for the program is a non-refundable admission fee of INR 12 Lac + applicable taxes (in place of 10 Lac + taxes) to be deposited within 10 days from the date of letter of admission.

It's important for the candidate to be aware of the additional costs that may be incurred as a result of extending their training or needing additional housing. Also, it is important for the candidate to know that Academy's refund policy, in case of any exceptional circumstances, the Academy reserves the right to consider refund of unaccrued fee as per its policy. It's also important to keep in mind that all the fees and costs mentioned above are exclusive of taxes and GST which will be charged and payable additionally. The fee structure for the program is designed to be flexible and affordable for the students, and it's important for them to read and understand the terms and conditions before making any payments.

Key Features of the Cadet Pilot Programme by SpiceJet:

The programme is specifically designed to create 'FIRST OFFICERS' for SpiceJet's fleet of Q400 and B737 aircrafts.The programme is fully managed by SpiceJet, and aims to provide students with the necessary skills and qualifications required to become a First Officer with the company.
The programme is open to eligible candidates who meet the necessary criteria and are willing to commit to the rigorous training schedule.
Upon successful completion of the programme, candidates will graduate with a Commercial Pilot's License (CPL) issued by the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Candidates will immediately move on to a 'Type Rating' program, which trains pilots to fly a specific type of aircraft, either Q400 or B737.
Once a candidate successfully completes the Cadet Pilot Programme, they will be offered a job as a 'First Officer' on either a Q400 or a B737 via a 'Letter of Intent' from SpiceJet.

Curriculum

The Curriculum of the Cadet Pilot Programme by SpiceJet is divided into three phases:

Phase 1: Commercial Pilot License and Instrument Rating (Single Engine)

During this phase, candidates will work towards obtaining their Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Instrument Rating (Single Engine).
SpiceJet does not require a Multi-Engine Rating for induction into its Q400/B737 Fleet, so this phase focuses solely on Single Engine training.
Candidates who have an FAA-approved CPL will also be required to convert their license to a DGCA-approved CPL license.

Phase 2: SpiceJet - Airline Pilot Induction Training

In this phase, candidates will undergo training specific to SpiceJet and its operations.
This training will cover various aspects such as company operations manual, safety equipment procedures, slide, ditching and fire training, and dangerous goods training.

Phase 3: Type Rating

This phase is divided into 2 months of Pre-flying Academy Ground School Training, 9 months of Training Flying Academy, 7 months of further training, and another 7 months of training.
Candidates will receive 140 hours of Ground School Training (Pre-flying academy) and Single Engine Flight Time, along with recommended syllabus as provided by DGCA CAR Sec 7, Ser B, Pt IV, Issue III and DGCA CAR Sec 7, Ser B, Pt VII, Issue I.
Cadet Pilots will be trained by a SpiceJet-designated flying academy.As part of the type rating, cadets will also receive training in DGCA theory exams, conversion to Indian CPL, company operations manual, safety equipment procedures, slide, ditching, and fire training, dangerous goods training, and Type Rating Syllabus as provided in DGCA CAR Sec 7, Ser B, Pt XIX, Issue II.
It's worth noting that Type Rating is a qualification required to fly a specific type of aircraft, and any aircraft with more than 5,700 kg maximum take-off weight or turbine power requires a 'Type Rating' to operate. A 'Type Rating' course consists of a technical ground school course that covers the aircraft system and performance, and a simulator course. This course teaches the Cadet Pilots how to fly the aircraft in a 'full flight simulator' that simulates normal and emergency situations.

The entire curriculum is designed to provide the cadet with a comprehensive training experience, and to cover all aspects of becoming a commercial pilot, from obtaining the necessary licenses to the specific training required to fly for SpiceJet.

The Cadet Pilot Programme by SpiceJet

Phase 1: Ground School Training (Pre-flying academy) - 140 hours

This phase includes ground school training that is conducted before the cadet begins their flying training.
It covers subjects such as meteorology, navigation, air law, and other basic principles of flying.

Phase 2: Training at flying academy – 200 Hrs

This phase includes the cadet's actual flying training, conducted at the flying academy designated by SpiceJet.
During this phase, cadet will learn the practical aspects of flying such as takeoff, landing, maneuvers and other procedures.

Phase 3: Ground School Training (Post-flying academy) – 240 hours

This phase includes further ground school training that is conducted after the cadet completes their flying training.
It covers more advanced topics such as instrument flying, navigation, and aircraft systems.

The entire programme is designed to provide the cadet with comprehensive training, covering all aspects of becoming a commercial pilot, from obtaining the necessary licenses to the specific training required to fly for SpiceJet.

For those with any queries or seeking counseling on the Cadet Pilot Programme by SpiceJet, you can walk-in to the facility and visit during the designated time slot. The designated time slot for walk-in queries or counseling sessions is between 2:30-3:30 PM on Monday and Thursday. Ground Training:

Ground training is conducted at the SpiceJet Aviation Training Academy located in Gurgaon.
The academy is a DGCA-approved training facility with more than 10,000 square feet of fully equipped classroom facilities.This includes classrooms, computer labs, and briefing rooms that are equipped with the latest technology and resources to provide cadets with the best possible learning environment.

Ground Training:

Flight training is conducted at SpiceJet-affiliated, DGCA-approved, Flying Training Schools.
The schools are equipped with a fleet of 20 single-engine trainer aircraft which provides cadets with ample opportunity to get hands-on experience.The aircraft are well-maintained and equipped with the latest technology, providing cadets with a safe and efficient training environment.

The infrastructure provides the cadet with the best facilities and resources to achieve their goal of becoming a commercial pilot. The training is conducted in a conducive, professional and safe environment that adheres to the standards set out by DGCA.

It is important to be prepared for any potential Cadet pilot program vacancies that may become available at airlines such as IndiGo, Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Spice Jet, and Singapore Airlines. When the cadet dates arrive, your training will begin at 6 am in the morning till 11 pm at night to monitor your performance throughout the day. You will have to be dressed in proper formal suits. Your actions will be observed throughout the day like the way you dress, the way you sit, the way you interact and communicate, your grooming, etc. 5+ airline pilots will be taking your interview- they will cross-question you and give you feedback accordingly.
