To become an airline pilot, a person must have an
Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), which is the highest level of certification an
aircraft pilot can have. A CPL holder can only undergo ATPL training if he or she has
completed the required flight hours and ground school training.
The ATPL training is a multi-phased program that
includes both ground school and flight training. The ground school phase of the ATPL
training is known as ATPL Theory classes. This phase is designed to equip pilots with
the necessary knowledge and understanding of the principles of flight, aircraft systems,
navigation, meteorology, and air law. Upon completion of this course, pilots will be
awarded an ATPL Theory License or a Frozen ATPL (FATPL).
After obtaining the ATPL Theory License, pilots must
then proceed to the flight training phase of the program. This phase is designed to
provide pilots with the necessary flight training to meet the 1500 flight hours
experience required to be eligible to work for an airline. The flight training phase
includes a combination of simulator and real-world flight training. Pilots will learn
how to fly different types of aircraft, including single-engine and multi-engine
aircraft.
They will also learn advanced navigation, meteorology, and air law.Upon
completion of both the ground school and flight training phases of the ATPL program,
pilots will then be required to pass a series of exams and assessments to obtain their
ATPL. This includes both written and practical exams that test their knowledge and
skills.
It is important to note that obtaining a CPL is just one
step on the road to becoming an airline pilot. A CPL holder still needs to undergo
additional training, including the ATPL program, to become an airline pilot.
Additionally, the flight hours and experience required for an ATPL are significantly
more than that required for a CPL.In conclusion, a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) holder
can join an ATPL program to become an Airline Pilot. CPL holder are eligible to undergo
advanced training for Airline Pilot Transport License (ATPL) which includes both ground
school and flight training.
