Overview of Insight IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme

Indigo Cadet Program is a great opportunity for those who want to pursue their dream of becoming a commercial pilot. The program provides successful candidates with the necessary training and knowledge to become an Indigo airline pilot. The first step in the application process is to take an online General Knowledge test which is designed to assess your basic understanding of aviation concepts. If you are successful in this stage, you will be invited to attend an personal interview at one of our campus locations. During the interview, we will be assessing your motivation and commitment to becoming an Indigo airline pilot. If you are successful in both the General Knowledge test and Personal Interview, you will be selected for the Indigo Cadet Program!

  • 18 Years on the last date of the Application at the time of the 1st attempt

  • Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), subject to security clearance

  • Indian National

Education

  • Higher Secondary Certificate (10 + 2)

  • Minimum of 51% / Grade Point 6 / Grade C1 individually in each of English, Physics, and Mathematics

Note: Engineering graduates (4 year) with 51% or more aggregate exempt from score requirements for Physics and Mathematics in Grade 12

Language

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken

  • DGCA Class 2 / Class 1 Medical Certificate

Program Outline

GROUND SCHOOL
  • Gurugaram

  • 3 Months

  • Cadets will establish their foundation of aviation knowledge through 600 hours of structured instruction on aviation subjects delivered by experienced subject specialist instructors. The students will appear for their DGCA examination at the end of the course.During the course, all academic and administrative processes will be managed alongside to facilitate the flight training.

CPL TRAINING
  • Port Alfred, S Africa

  • 9 Months

  • Cadets will commence their CPL Training at 43 Air School to develop the skills required to become an airline pilot. This training will comprise 150 Hours of Ground School and 175.5 Hours of flight training including 30 hours of Multi Engine flying for issue of a South African CPL. The training will be conducted airline style with checklist usage, preflight and post flight briefings and according to the approved training plan.

  • The type rating training for the A320 will be carried out according to the DGCA approved Airbus training syllabus at approved training centre. The culmination of the training will be the license skill test at the successful completion of which, the cadets will be ready for commencement of line training with IndiGo.

FOREIGN LICENSE CONVERSION

  • Cadets will commence their license conversion process at DGCA approved FTO in India, upon return from South Africa. This will include 39.5 Hours of Flight training including checks as required by DGCA for foreign license conversion and issue of Indian CPL. This will be followed by submission of application for issue of the Indian DGCA CPL.

CAMPUS AND ACCOMMODATION

A large, secure complex is used to house the students. With a block of four rooms sharing a shower and toilet, each student has their own room. A central lounge and kitchenette are located in each block. Study places with overhead reading lamps are available in rooms. Wi-Fi service with a high speed is standard. For an additional fee, a small number of single en suite rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Laundry service and room cleaning are both included in housekeeping.

Three meals are served each day in the "Refuel" dining hall, which also has a base-level kitchen to accommodate different ethnic needs. For the duration of their stay in South Africa, the cadets are given breakfast, lunch, and supper with four meal options per sitting, including the meal of the day, vegetarian, halal, and healthy option. An environment that is safe and conducive to learning is offered by the residential campus. Tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, and mini golf courses are available as sporting amenities. Bar, cafeteria, swimming pool, gym, games room, television lounges with satellite TV/DVD, and an indoor recreation center with a fully stocked pilot shop are just a few of the on-site recreational amenities.

Indigo Cadet Pilot Programme
Does the program guarantee me a job?
As long as you perform to the expected standards during the training course and obtain the required licenses and certifications that we are training you for, IndiGo will recruit you as a Junior First Officer at the end of training. The letter of intent (LOI) issued by IndiGo after the selection process is their commitment to this project.
Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply you must meet the following criteria:

Do I need a valid passport?
Your passport will be required before proceeding overseas for your flight training which will be approximately 5 months after the initial registration.
I do not meet the minimum academic qualification, what can I do?
If you do not meet this requirement, you can pursue these subjects (Physics, Math and English) via the National Institute of Open Schooling to achieve the desired grade.

I have not turned 18 years yet can I still apply?
You need to be 18 years old on the last date of application for the initial screening.
I have not got my 10+2 results yet, can I still apply?
You need to be 32 years of age or younger on the last date of application for the initial screening.
I have some hours of flying experience. Can I still apply?
Yes, But you will undergo the entire training program with us. The credit from your past flying experience will not be considered towards your training.
I already hold a pilot’s license can I apply?
No, the current CPL License holders are not eligible for this program.
What is the selection process?
Step 1:Register on our website at www.insightflyer.com

Step 2:Class 2 medical at any medical practitioner listed out in the DGCA website at this link https://dgca.gov.in/digigov-portal/?page=jsp/dgca/InventoryList/personal/medical/class2/class2.pdf It will be critical to verify dispatch of the Class 2 medical report to the DGCA to ensure the medical assessment is obtained at the earliest. For this you must liaison directly with the doctor conducting your class 2 medical. Retain the certificate and email/upload a copy to us. The approximate cost of a class 2 medical will be approximately Rs. 5000 to 6000.

Step 3: Detailed competencies assessment at our training center in Unit 607 tower B, Global Business Park, Gurugram, https://www.insightflyer.com/india-2/

Step 4:Class 1 Medical at one of the initial CPL medical centers https://dgca.gov.in/digigov-portal/?page=jsp/dgca/InventoryList/personal/medical/class1/c1exam.pdf

Step 5:Group task assessment will be conducted by IndiGo where inter-personal and interactive skills along with consensus building will be noted amongst the candidates.

Step 6: Final interview with IndiGo on successful completion of which a letter of Intent (LOI) will be issued along with the requirement to sign two agreements, one between you and IndiGo and one between you and Insight Aviation.
Do I need to carry any documents for the assessment?
Yes. You need to carry the following original documents during your screening in Gurugram, which is Step 3 of the selection process above.

How best should I prepare for the assessment?
You can prepare yourself in Physics, Math and English. For the aptitude assessment, it is best not to prepare as any preparation may result in inaccurate results which would influence the outcome of your selection and training.
What is the training schedule?
The training schedule is listed below in detail

Step 1: Ground school at our training center at Gurugram. This will be an intense 3- month ground school at the end of which you will appear for your DGCA subject examinations.

Step 2: Flight training at our overseas flight training facility with 43Air School. This training will happen in South Africa and is expected to last 9 months. It will culminate with the issue of a South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) CPL ME-IR license.

Step3: Conversion of South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) CPL to an Indian CPL issued by DGCA in India. This involves flight checks, skill test conducted at DGCA training facility (single / multi-engine airplanes).

Step 4: Issue of Indian License. Our documentation division will assist in ensuring all documents are in compliance for the issue of your Indian CPL. This process is likely to take one month.

Step 5: Type rating of the Airbus A320 at selected location. This will involve both theory and practical training and will take a period of 2 months.Step 6:Induction into IndiGo as Junior First Officer.
How safe is 43AirSchool in South Africa?
The safety of our students is our prime consideration. Port Alfred  is a quaint little beach town in the southern cape of South Africa which is buzzing with tourists during vacation. The temperature around the year is between 18-26 degrees Celsius. It is home to some of the best beaches and surf tide on the planet. All the cadet pilots will be residing and studying on the campus which is totally self-contained and is under round the clock video surveillance and security. Both 43 Air School and Port Alfred offer a safe and secure environment to live and learn.
What is the total cost of training?
The total cost of training is USD 127,134
What is included in the course cost?
Everything will be included after your selection except the following:• Food, accommodation and transportation during the ground school in Gurugram
• Any attempts for exams and check rides following a failure
• Any additional training required due to performance issues
• Food and accommodation during the Type Rating overseas
Is it possible to get bank finance?
Yes, some portion of finance may be available as a personal loan, but you may need to provide a collateral to the bank for the remaining amount.

What are the requirements with IndiGo to be a part of the program?
You will be required to sign the following agreements:• An agreement with IndiGo HR, whereby you agree to join IndiGo after completion of the program and work for a minimum period of 5 years with their sureties’ and undated cheques.
• An agreement with Insight Aviation for training services provided in India and overseas.
• On completion of training you will be required to sign a “Pilot Employment Agreement” with IndiGo
Am I required to submit an undated cheque to IndiGo?
Yes. This is a part of the agreement with IndiGo, whereby you will need to submit an undated cheque of 30 lacs at the signing of your LOI, which could be cashed by IndiGo as on violations of terms of your agreement with them.
Can my training be terminated?
Yes. Your training can be terminated anytime due to non-performance or disciplinary issues. Normally this does not occur unless there is a serious performance or disciplinary issue. Every attempt will be made including remedial or extra training to improve performance. In case of disciplinary matters there will be zero tolerance to any serious violation of the code of conduct and that will lead to an immediate termination.
What are the typical earnings of a pilot on joining IndiGo
The typical earnings after one joins IndiGo as a Junior First Officer as follows:
These earnings take into account that you fly 70 hours a month and progress to your next grade without any hiccups or delays either due performance or due to delays at IndiGo.
What are the working hours like?
There is a legal limit to the number of hours a pilot can fly in a month. This is closely monitored by the regulatory authorities. You can expect to be working 5-6 days a week and fly a flying average of 70 hours every month.
How long does it take to qualify as a Captain?
IndiGo is a fast growing airline and the minimum requirements for command upgrade currently get fulfilled in three years of line flying. As long as you are in possession of an ATP license, you should become eligible in that time frame.
