A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is a license issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) allowing a pilot to act as a pilot-in-command of a commercial aircraft. DGCA requires that all CPL holders hold a Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license. This license is issued after the pilot has been trained in the use of radio telephony and has passed a written and practical examination.
The Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license is required for commercial pilots to communicate with air traffic controllers (ATC) in the air. This license allows the pilot to communicate with ATC in both English and Hindi and also enables them to communicate with ATC in other languages such as French, Spanish, German, and Russian.
The Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license is valid for five years and can be renewed by submitting an application to DGCA before the expiry date of the license. The application must be accompanied by a fee of Rs. 250 and a medical certificate.
To obtain the Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license, the pilot must complete an approved course of instruction in radio telephony, which is usually conducted by a flying training school. The course consists of theoretical and practical instruction in the use of radio telephony, including basic air navigation and air traffic rules, and the use of various radio navigation aids.
Once the course is completed, the pilot must pass a written and practical examination to obtain the Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license. The written examination covers topics such as air navigation, air traffic rules, and the use of radio telephony. The practical examination consists of a series of tests on the use of radio telephony and the related equipment.
Once the pilot has obtained the Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license, they must also maintain their medical fitness and flying experience. Pilots must renew their medical certificate every six months and must also have a minimum of 200 hours of flying experience in the last two years in order to maintain their license.
In conclusion, the Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) 'A' Class license is a mandatory requirement for all commercial pilots in India. This license allows the pilot to communicate with air traffic controllers in both English and Hindi and also enables them to communicate with ATC in other languages such as French, Spanish, German, and Russian. Pilots must complete an approved course of instruction in radio telephony and must pass a written and practical examination to obtain the license. They must also maintain their medical fitness and flying experience in order to keep the license valid.
