Becoming a pilot in India is a dream for many, but there are many qualifications, licensing, and training requirements that must be met before taking to the skies. In this article, we will provide an overview of the criteria and steps necessary to become a pilot in India.
The first step towards becoming a pilot in India is to obtain the necessary qualifications. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has established a minimum educational requirement for pilots. All aspiring pilots must have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as subjects, or must hold an equivalent degree or diploma.
In addition to the educational qualifications, aspiring pilots must also pass the Pilot Aptitude Test (PAT). The PAT is an exam designed to test the pilot's skill and knowledge and is administered by the Civil Aviation Training College. Once the PAT is successfully completed, the aspiring pilot must obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) from the DGCA. The CPL is granted after the aspiring pilot has successfully completed a prescribed course at an approved flying school.
After obtaining the CPL, the aspiring pilot must complete the required number of flight hours in order to be eligible for a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR). This rating is required for pilots to be able to fly aircraft with more than one engine. After successfully completing the MEIR, the aspiring pilot must obtain an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). The ATPL is the highest level of pilot license in India and is required in order to fly commercial aircraft.
Once the ATPL is obtained, the aspiring pilot must complete the necessary training and experience in order to be accepted by a commercial airline. This includes completing a Type Rating course and obtaining a Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL). The MPL is required for pilots to be able to fly with a co-pilot. After the MPL is obtained, the aspiring pilot must pass the Airline Pilot Selection Check and interview to be accepted as a pilot for a commercial airline.
In conclusion, there are many qualifications, licensing, and training requirements that must be met in order to become a pilot in India. Aspiring pilots must have the necessary educational qualifications, pass the Pilot Aptitude Test, obtain the Commercial Pilot License (CPL), complete the Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR), obtain the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), complete the necessary training and experience, and pass the Airline Pilot Selection Check and interview in order to be accepted by a commercial airline. Being a pilot in India is a rewarding and exciting career, and with the right qualifications, licensing, and training, you can be well on your way to achieving your dream.
