Becoming a commercial pilot in India after 12th grade is a dream for many aspiring aviators and the first step towards this is to understand the eligibility criteria. This article will provide an overview of what it takes to become a commercial pilot in India.
The minimum age requirement to become a commercial pilot in India is 18 years old. An individual must also have a valid Indian passport and a secondary educational qualification which is equivalent to at least 10+2 level, with a minimum of 50% marks. Additionally, an individual must have a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The next step is to complete the Commercial Pilot License (CPL) course. The CPL course is offered by various institutions in India and typically takes 9-12 months to complete. The course includes ground classes, practical training, and exams. The course is divided into three parts - the Flight Radio Telephone Operator License (FRTOL), the Instrument Rating (IR) and a Multi-Engine Rating (MER).
Along with the CPL training, an individual must also have a valid license to fly a single engine aircraft, such as a Cessna or a Piper. This license is called the Private Pilot License (PPL). To obtain the PPL, an individual must have a minimum of 40 hours of flight experience, pass the Aeronautical Knowledge Test and the Flight Training Course.
Once an individual has completed the CPL and PPL courses, they must then pass the Commercial Pilot Licensing Exam conducted by the DGCA. This exam consists of a written test and a practical test. The written test covers topics such as air law and aircraft operating procedures, and the practical test consists of a flight test and an instrument rating test.
Once an individual has passed the Commercial Pilot Licensing Exam, they will be issued a Commercial Pilot License. This license allows them to fly commercial aircraft, such as passenger jets, cargo planes, and helicopters.
To maintain their license, an individual must undergo periodic medical tests and refresher training. Additionally, they will need to complete a minimum number of hours of flying time in order to stay current and be able to fly safely.
Becoming a commercial pilot in India after 12th grade is a challenging yet rewarding career path. With dedication and hard work, an individual can gain the necessary qualifications and skills to become a successful commercial pilot in India.
