The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven American uniformed services. Formed as a part of the Army on September 18, 1947, the USAF was established as a separate branch of the military on September 18, 1947, with the National Security Act of 1947. This act also created the Department of the Air Force, which is headed by the Secretary of the Air Force.
The history of the USAF can be traced back to the formation of the Aeronautical Division of the United States Army Signal Corps in 1907. With the establishment of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) in 1915, the US government began to take an interest in the development of aviation technology. The USAF is also responsible for training the next generation of pilots. USAF pilots are trained in a variety of advanced aircraft, including fighter jets, bombers, helicopters, and transport aircraft. USAF pilots are also trained in a variety of flight training schools, from basic pilot training to advanced air combat tactics.
In addition to its role in global security, the USAF also plays an important role in the global aviation industry. USAF pilots are often hired by commercial airlines to fly passenger jets, cargo planes, and other aircraft.
