Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on August 5, 1930. He developed a passion for flying at an early age and began taking flying lessons when he was just 16 years old. After graduating from Purdue University, Armstrong joined the Navy, where he flew 78 combat missions and received many awards for his service. After leaving the Navy, Armstrong became an experimental test pilot, where he flew some of the most advanced aircrafts of the era. He was selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to be part of the Gemini Program and then the Apollo Program. On July 20th, 1969, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon, uttering the famous words "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind". Armstrong went on to be an advocate for space exploration, serving as a professor and Chairman of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger accident. Armstrong died on August 25th, 2012. His legacy lives on in the form of monuments and memorials around the world, as well as within the hearts of those inspired by his courage and bravery in the face of human achievement.

Overview - Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong is one of the most iconic figures in human history. He was the first human to ever set foot on the moon, and in doing so, achieved a feat that would go down in the annals of history. Armstrong was born on August 5th, 1930 in Wapakoneta, Ohio and was the oldest of three children in his family. He had a deep interest in aeronautics and aircraft from a young age, and after graduating high school, he enrolled in Purdue University to pursue a degree in aeronautical engineering.
After graduating from Purdue in 1955, Armstrong decided to pursue a career as a pilot. He was accepted into the Navy's flight training program and graduated first in his class. After serving in the Navy for several years, he became a test pilot and eventually joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1962.
Armstrong quickly rose through the ranks at NASA, and in 1969, he was selected as the commander of the historic Apollo 11 mission. On July 16th, 1969, Armstrong and his crew launched from Kennedy Space Center and three days later, Armstrong became the first human to ever set foot on the moon. Armstrong famously stated, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Following his success with the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong continued to have an illustrious career in the aerospace industry. He served as a research professor at the University of Cincinnati, and his advice and expertise was sought by many companies as an aircraft pilot. Armstrong also served as a consultant for both the Airline Pilots Association and the Aircraft Pilots Association. He was also a commercial pilot and flew several aircrafts, including the F-18 Hornet, the A-6 Intruder, and the F-14 Tomcat.
In later years, Armstrong was celebrated as an American hero and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor in the United States. He passed away on August 25th, 2012 at the age of 82.
The legacy of Neil Armstrong will live on forever. He is an icon of human achievement and an inspiration to all who seek to push the boundaries of exploration and excellence. Armstrong's life and career is an example of the true potential of the human spirit and a testament to the power of dedication, perseverance, and courage.

Neil Armstrong is a legendary figure in the history of mankind who achieved the impossible and became the first man ever to set foot on the moon. His name is synonymous with bravery and courage, and he has become a symbol of human achievement.
Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930 in Wapakoneta, Ohio and grew up in a small town near Dayton. He was fascinated by airplanes from a young age and spent hours building and flying model planes. After graduating from high school in 1947, he joined the Navy, where he earned his pilot’s wings and was assigned to the Korean War. He flew 78 combat missions and was awarded three Air Medals for his service.
Following his military service, Armstrong attended Purdue University, where he studied aerospace engineering. After graduating in 1955, he joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which later became the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
In 1962, Armstrong was selected to be part of the two-man Gemini 5 mission, and in 1966 he became the commander of the Gemini 8 mission. In 1969, he was chosen as the commander of Apollo 11, the first mission to land on the moon. On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and his crewmate Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first and second humans ever to set foot on the moon.
With his famous words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, Armstrong became a national hero and an icon of human achievement. He received numerous awards and accolades for his accomplishments, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, and the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor.
After his historic mission, Armstrong returned to academia, teaching at the University of Cincinnati and serving as a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Southern California. In 1985, he was appointed the vice chairman of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident.
He also served as a spokesperson for the aerospace industry, and his accomplishments were recognized around the world. He was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1993, and in 2011 he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor.
Armstrong passed away on August 25, 2012, at the age of 82. His legacy lives on through his many accomplishments and the example he set for future generations of explorers. He will forever be remembered as the first man to ever set foot on the moon, and a symbol of human achievement.
