DGCA Class 2 & Class 1 Medical Test For Pilots | Complete Guide | GOLDEN EPAULETTES AVIATION
Pilots are required to pass medical tests conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India before they can fly. The DGCA is the regulatory body responsible for issuing and monitoring the commercial pilot’s medical certificate. There are two classes of medical tests that must be taken, Class 1 and Class 2.
Class 1 Medical Test
The Class 1 Medical Test is the most stringent of the two and must be taken every 12 months. This test is required for all commercial pilots, including those with the rank of Captain and First Officer. The test includes a physical examination, blood tests, vision tests and an electrocardiogram (ECG). The physical examination checks for any abnormalities that may be present and assesses the overall fitness of the pilot. The blood tests are taken to detect any infections or diseases that may affect the pilot’s ability to fly. The vision tests check for any vision problems and the ECG is used to detect any heart conditions that may be present.
Class 2 Medical Test
The Class 2 Medical Test is less stringent than the Class 1 test and must be taken every 24 months. This test is for all other pilots, including co-pilots and student pilots. The test includes a physical examination, vision tests and an ECG. The physical examination checks for any abnormalities that may be present and assesses the overall fitness of the pilot. The vision tests check for any vision problems and the ECG is used to detect any heart conditions that may be present.
The DGCA requires that all pilots pass the medical tests in order to be issued a valid medical certificate. Pilots must be medically fit in order to fly safely and in compliance with the regulations. The medical tests are an important part of ensuring the safety of passengers and crew.
