1. What are the requirements for obtaining an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in India?
The Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is the highest level of aircraft pilot certification in India, issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India. It is required for command of large aircraft by Indian carriers.
The minimum requirements for obtaining an ATPL are as follows:
1. Age: The minimum age for an ATPL is 18 years.
2. Qualifications: The applicant must have a valid Indian Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and an Instrument Rating.
3. Medical: The applicant must hold a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate from a DGCA-approved medical examiner.
4. Training: The applicant must have completed approved training for an ATPL Theory Course, Multi-engine Training, and Multi-crew Cooperation Course.
5. Experience: The applicant must have a minimum of 1,500 hours of flight time, including 500 hours of cross-country flight time and 100 hours of night flying.
6. Examinations: The applicant must pass the ATPL Theory Exam, Multi-engine Exam, and Multi-crew Cooperation Exam.
7. English Proficiency: The applicant must have a minimum level of English proficiency.
The Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is divided into two categories as per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations:
1. Commercial Pilot License (CPL): A pilot must possess a valid CPL to act as a pilot-in-command (PIC) of a commercial aircraft.
2. Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL): An ATPL is the highest grade of pilot license and is required to act as a PIC of a commercial aircraft carrying passengers.
3. How many hours of flight experience is necessary to qualify for an ATPL?
According to the DGCA CAR Section 4 Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) Regulation, an applicant for an ATPL must have completed a minimum of 1500 hours of flight experience, including a minimum of 500 hours of cross-country flight time and 100 hours of instrument flight time.
4. What type of aircraft are allowed to be flown under an ATPL?
According to the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), aircrafts allowed to be flown under an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) are multi-engine turbine-powered aircrafts.
5. Are there any restrictions on the number of passengers that can be flown under an ATPL?
Yes, as per the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India, there is a restriction on the number of passengers that can be flown under an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). The maximum number of passengers that can be carried in a flight operated under an ATPL is 19, including the pilot, co-pilot and cabin crew.
